Intellectual property:
Our international property law practices cover the traditional areas of trademarks, patents, designs, and copyrights. Our Yemi Osibanjo and Kedinga Fogam are co-authors of the authoritative text on media law Nigerian Media Law (Gravitas, 1991)-and their opinion on copyright and other related right are highly regarded.
The firm receives and processes instructions, both locally and internationally, for registration of trademarks, patents and designs, and handles litigation for the protection and defense of the whole range of intellectual property rights.
With a marked increase in our intellectual property practice, a decision was taken to open a branch office in Abuja (giving amongst other factors, the status of the city as the seat of trademarks and patent registry). The new office will ensure an even faster return in processing of clients instructions. But more importantly it will mean a drastic reduction in the fees for all our intellectual property work pre investment approvals, compliance/regulatory activities.
Maritime, Admiralty &Shipping: We are actively involved in the whole range of maritime law issues including litigation covering arrest of ship and release from arrest , sales, mortgages, insurance and registration of ships.
Oil & Gas, Solid Minerals: The firm is also involved in advising investors and operators in the upstream and downstream sectors and processing approvals and licenses for various activities in the oil and gas industry generally.
Well before the recent establishment of the ministry of solid minerals, our firm has been actively involved in assisting investors in this area, which probably makes us the leading firm in solid mineral law. Now that Nigerian vast mineral resources including gold, precious and semi precious stones are open to foreign investment, our practice in this area should experience exciting growth. Our Ben Obidegwu and Tunji Aregbe, both of counsel are preparing a standard manual for investors in the solid minerals sectors.
